General information

The eye area plays a central role in a man's charisma and presence. Drooping upper lids or pronounced eye bags quickly make the eyes look tired, stern or exhausted – even when physically fit. The aim of eyelid surgery for men is subtle, natural eye rejuvenation without changing masculine expressions or the character of the face.

Diagnosis and indication

Eyelid surgery is indicated for age-related changes of the upper and/or lower eyelids. Typical findings in men are:

  • drooping upper lids with excess skin
  • field of vision restricted by eyelid skin
  • eye bags or bulges in the lower lid
  • an overall tired or strained look

The indication is determined individually, taking into account skin quality, muscle tone and facial proportions.

Who is the procedure suitable for?

Well suited for

  • excess skin on the upper lid
  • eye bags on the lower lid
  • tired look despite enough sleep

Rather not, or only later

  • pronounced dry eyes (have them checked by an ophthalmologist first)
  • expecting wrinkles beside the eyes to be removed completely

Upper eyelid surgery for men

In upper eyelid surgery, excess skin that has accumulated over time is removed. The aim is an open, alert look without changing the eyelid area too much. The incision is made in the natural eyelid crease so that the scar is barely visible later.

Lower eyelid surgery for men

Lower eyelid surgery reduces eye bags and smooths the transition between lower lid and cheek. Depending on the findings, excess fat is removed or repositioned. Modern techniques take great care not to shorten the lower lid or pull it outwards.

Combined upper & lower eyelid surgery

For more pronounced changes, a combined treatment can make sense. This allows the whole eye area to be rejuvenated harmoniously without individual areas standing out.

Before treatment

Before the procedure there is a detailed medical consultation covering which eyelid areas are to be treated and what result is realistically achievable. Particular attention is paid to preserving the male facial expression. The healing process and scar position are also explained.

Anaesthesia, duration and stay

Eyelid surgery in men is usually performed under local anaesthesia or combined with twilight sedation. Depending on the extent, it takes about 45 minutes to two hours. The procedure is usually outpatient.

After treatment

After the procedure, swelling and bruising around the eyes are normal. In most cases they subside within a few days to weeks. Cooling and rest support healing. Sports activities should be paused temporarily.

Recovery & result

Healing is usually uncomplicated. After a short time the eyes already look fresher and more alert. The final result shows after a few weeks, once the swelling has completely gone. The facial expression remains natural and masculine.

Risks and possible complications

In addition to general surgical risks, temporary swelling, a feeling of dryness in the eyes or slight asymmetries may occur. In rare cases temporary eyelid malposition can occur. Careful surgical planning minimises these risks.

Summary

Eyelid surgery for men allows targeted eye rejuvenation with a big effect. A good result requires restraint, experience and individual planning that preserves a masculine appearance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the scar on the upper lid visible?

The incision lies in the natural eyelid crease. Once healed, the scar is barely visible with the eye open.

Can health insurance pay?

If the upper lid demonstrably restricts the field of vision, cost coverage is possible in exceptional cases, but rare for surgery abroad.

When can I drive again?

Not immediately after the procedure. The doctor will tell you when it is safe again, usually after a few days.
