General information
Hair loss is one of the most common aesthetic concerns for men. It often starts early and can considerably affect self-confidence. Modern hair transplant procedures now allow natural, permanent results that blend harmoniously with the existing hair. The aim of hair aesthetics for men is to reconstruct the hairline, densify thinning areas and restore a masculine, age-appropriate appearance.
Diagnosis and indication
A hair transplant is indicated for hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), receding hairline, crown thinning or diffuse thinning. A sufficient donor area, usually at the back or sides of the head, is required. The indication is determined individually, taking into account the hair loss pattern, hair structure, age and the long-term development of hair loss.
Who is the procedure suitable for?
Well suited for
- hereditary hair loss, receding hairline, crown thinning
- sufficiently dense donor area at the back of the head
- hair loss that has largely stabilised
Rather not, or only later
- donor area too thin
- alopecia areata or unexplained causes
FUE hair transplant (Follicular Unit Extraction)
FUE is the most commonly used method today. Individual hair follicles are gently removed from the donor area and transplanted into bald or thinning areas. Its advantages are minimal scarring and quick healing. The results look very natural.
DHI technique (Direct Hair Implantation)
With DHI, the extracted follicles are inserted directly with special implanter pens. This method allows very precise placement of the hairs, especially at the hairline or for densification. It is particularly suitable for smaller areas or high aesthetic demands.
Hairline design & densification
A key part of a hair transplant is designing a natural hairline, individually adapted to face shape, age and the patient's wishes. The aim is not a youthful look but an authentic, masculine result.
Before treatment
Before the hair transplant there is a detailed consultation and analysis. Donor and recipient areas are assessed, the number of grafts needed is calculated and the long-term strategy is discussed. It is explained what result is realistically achievable and how hair loss may develop in future. Instructions on preparation, for example avoiding certain medications, are part of the planning.
Anaesthesia, duration and stay
The hair transplant is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Depending on the extent, treatment takes several hours. The procedure is outpatient; no hospital stay is required.
After treatment
After the procedure, slight swelling or crusting may occur, which usually subsides within a few days. Physical rest is important in the first days. The transplanted hairs initially fall out – a normal process – before permanent hair growth begins after a few months.
Recovery & result
New hair growth usually begins after three to four months. The final result is visible after about nine to twelve months. The transplanted hairs grow permanently and can be cut and styled normally. The appearance looks fuller, natural and masculine.
Risks and possible complications
In addition to general risks, temporary redness, swelling or uneven growth may occur. Proper execution and consistent aftercare minimise these risks considerably.
Summary
A hair transplant is an effective and permanent solution for hereditary hair loss in men. Modern techniques allow natural results with high satisfaction – provided planning and execution are individual and realistic.

Frequently asked questions
FUE or DHI – which is better?
Both work with individually extracted grafts. With DHI, the hairs are inserted directly with an implanter pen, which is particularly suitable for the hairline and densification. The doctor decides which method suits based on the findings.
Does my head have to be shaved?
The donor area is usually shaved short for extraction. For smaller procedures a partial shave is sometimes possible.
Will the new hair fall out again?
The transplanted hairs initially fall out after a few weeks – this is normal. From about the third month they grow back permanently.
How many grafts do I need?
That depends on the area and the desired density. Based on your photos, the doctors estimate the number of grafts in advance.
