General information
Rhinoplasty for men has a clear goal: improving proportions while preserving masculine features. The male nose is generally more prominent, straighter and stronger than the female nose. Modern male rhinoplasty therefore does not aim at "making it smaller" but at harmonious adaptation to the forehead, chin and jawline. Besides aesthetics, functional factors such as nasal breathing often play an important role.
Diagnosis and indication
Nose surgery is indicated if the shape of the nose is bothersome or there are functional limitations. Common indications in men are:
- pronounced nasal hump
- wide or asymmetrical nose
- crooked nasal axis
- drooping or misshapen nasal tip
- breathing problems due to internal nasal structures
The assessment is always made in the context of the whole face in order to preserve male harmony.
Who is the procedure suitable for?
Well suited for
- nasal hump, crooked or wide nose
- breathing problems due to internal nasal structures
- facial growth completed
Rather not, or only later
- wish for a very small, delicate nose that does not suit a male face
- acute inflammation of the nose or sinuses
Before surgery
Before the procedure, the shape of the nose and facial proportions are analysed in detail. Which changes make sense and what limits exist are discussed. Particular attention is paid to not making the nose look too small or too delicate. It is also clarified whether functional measures are needed. The surgical technique, healing process and realistic results are explained in detail.
Closed rhinoplasty
All incisions are made inside the nose. This method is suitable for less complex corrections and leaves no external scars.
Open rhinoplasty
Through a small incision on the columella, the surgeon gains a better view of the nasal structures. This technique is preferred for more complex corrections and allows particularly precise results.
Functional corrections
For breathing problems, internal nasal structures can also be corrected. The aim is better nasal breathing combined with aesthetic improvement.
Anaesthesia, duration and stay
Rhinoplasty in men is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The operation takes about two to three hours. A short hospital stay is often advisable to monitor the first phase of healing.
After surgery
After the procedure, swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are normal. A nasal splint stabilises the new shape for several days. Physical rest is important in the first weeks; sports activities in particular should be avoided.
Recovery & result
While major swelling subsides relatively early, the nasal tip in men often takes several months to reach its final shape. The final result can usually be assessed after six to twelve months. The nose looks more harmonious, straighter and masculine – without looking operated on.
Risks and possible complications
In addition to general surgical risks, temporary swelling, changes in sensation or asymmetries may occur. In rare cases a revision may be necessary. Careful planning and experienced execution minimise these risks.
Summary
Rhinoplasty in men is a demanding procedure that requires particular aesthetic sensitivity. The aim is improved facial harmony while preserving a masculine appearance. Individual planning and realistic expectations are required.
